For many new home buyers and renters, their first impression of your property is crucial. Most people decide at first glance if they want to buy or rent a property based on their first impression of the property.

If you’ve ever heard the saying “I knew that was my home the moment I saw it”, this is why. The right property is often like love at first sight. People instinctively feel a sense of tranquility and joy when they see a property that “speaks” to them. However, great-looking properties don’t just happen.

They are tended, maintained, and upgraded in many ways. Well-kept property grounds are often the product of consistent maintenance routines. If you want to improve your home’s appeal to buyers or renters, then these tips on maintaining your grounds will help you.

Plant a Garden

Gardens add a lot of natural beauty to properties. When they’re well-tended with beautiful flowers, they elevate the building in many ways. Nature lovers naturally prefer homes with gardens in them.

If you don’t have the space for a garden, you can create instant gardens with some containers. These are known as container gardens and can be added within a day.

All you have to do is get ready-made garden pots from the nearest flower garden center and put them in your home. And if you prefer specific garden plants, the garden center can provide them.

Maintain the Lawn and Landscape

This means mowing the lawn, pruning the trees, trimming bushes and hedges around the house, and installing artificial grass where needed. Lawn maintenance and light landscaping can elevate your property’s beauty and attract buyers.

Also, remember to get rid of dead leaves –if any, clean the gutters, eliminate unwanted plants and weeds in the garden or lawn, as well as, around your walkways.

Add Focal Pieces

These can be a sculpture, an art, statuary, sign, or something that attracts people’s attention to the home and makes the home stand out. Focal pieces don’t have to be expensive or pricey.

The goal is to get people to notice your home. And if you already have one that’s looking dull, you can easily spruce it up with new paint or some power washing. For instance, homes with signs can have their address added to them and repainted with modern paints that complement your home’s colors.

Introduce Water Elements

Having sprinklers on your property is already pretty nice –and expected. But do you know what will really upgrade it? A fountain, pond, or waterfall. These water elements always look amazing on property grounds and provide a feeling or sense of tranquility.

If you’re installing a fountain, make sure it’s thoroughly cleaned periodically. If you already have one, but it’s looking old or faded, a simple update or facelift can restore it to its former glory.

Set Up an Outdoor Dining

Consider creating an outdoor dining space using chairs, benches, and one or more tables. This can be in the backyard or at the side of the property.

The important thing is that there be some privacy… unless you don’t mind eating out in the open. Most people just use plastic or wooden chairs and tables for this. But if you want something permanent, consider putting in a retaining wall.
