Regardless of who finds a way to win the U.S. Presidency, only 35 percent of all American voters trust Main Stream Media to tell the unbiased truth ongoing.

There is an adage in politics that goes “when you are defending or explaining, you are losing.” Too many mainstream media pundits tried to defend or explain ongoing issues that held up the current election process.

TRUST EROSION BEGAN PRIOR TO ELECTION

Issues began in March with ongoing explanation, defense and reporting of the Coronavirus. As can be seen on the graph above 43% was the highest level of trust the media could maintain. The media garnered that trust level from Democrats. Democrats are now considered to be the base of all things Main Stream Media.

29% of Republicans, however, stated they did not trust the media at all. While only 24% of conservatives stated they could trust the media a good deal of the time.

Among all groups, the media is trusted 35% of the time.

Many American voters across social media state they are choosing to turn off Main Stream Media permanently.

MORE THAN ADVERTISING REVENUE

The issues move beyond more than ad revenue for corporate news. Anytime a business begins quarreling with half of their customers, they are soon to be no more.

Many Americans are already tuning out of these national media outlets, preferring to follow their own favorite micro news outlets of choice.

ESCAPISM

In past periods of deep distrust in institutions, Americans chose various methods of escapism. In the 1940’s many went to the movies. The options today are wide and varying.

From video gaming, to online streaming, to a myriad of sports options, Americans can choose to opt out of all things mainstream media in 2021. Each may choose to escape into his or her own personal safe place. After the 1960’s, it was Laurel Canyon, rock and roll, and all things 1972. Baby boomers remember the Nixon years well.

This Distrust Feels Permanent

With all of the available alternative news options and escape options, the timing for Mainstream Media could not be worse. Half of their audience may have already decided to tune them out permanently.
