A recent survey shows that 68% of S.C. homeowners are planning a DIY (do it yourself) home improvement versus hiring the work out.

Although inflation has cooled down over the past six months, prices for home improvement and household furnishings continue to run hot, up 7.3% year over year.

In order to understand how Americans are reacting to these price increases, Today’s Homeowner surveyed nearly 3,700 homeowners to discover how this is affecting their home improvement plans this year.

Home Improvements

Here are some of the main findings for South Carolina:

  • 68.3% of South Carolinians say they are more likely to do a DIY project this year due to inflation.
  • South Carolina is the #37 state where people are spending less on home improvement projects due to inflation.
  • 46.3% of South Carolinians are spending less on home improvements due to the economic climate compared to about 49.8% of homeowners nationally.
  • Nationally, about 71% of homeowners say that inflation has caused them to do a project themselves rather than hire a professional. 76% of young homeowners ages 18-24 are doing a project themselves compared to 67% of people older than 55.
