When it comes to your home, there are so many ways that you can decorate to showcase your personality. But what if you are lacking in inspiration? Where do you turn? Around the world, there are some beautiful and unique ideas on how to create your ideal home.

Farmhouse

The farmhouse style has been doing the rounds for a few years now and it doesn’t show any signs of stopping. What is so appealing about it is the use of natural materials and reclaimed items that create a feeling of warmth. Natural woods and undyed fabrics have been the focal point of this trend. And as more people have embraced it, the joy of the simple things in life has been rediscovered. Trends such as Cottagecore are very similar but Farmhouse is the original one that people start with and branch out from there.

Oriental

The Far East has been the home to some of the world’s finest silks for hundreds of years. But oriental style is not what you think it is, as there are two sides to it. One side is the zen and minimalist side with moderndigsfurniture.com/akita-japanese-bed.html and uncluttered surfaces. The other side is the rich colours and detailed embroidery, the fine details of the art, and the beauty of the design of the furniture. The zen look has been recreated so many times over the years, but now is the time for the other side to shine through.

French Parisian Chic

The idea that Parisian apartments are filled with distressed furniture is a preconception that needs to disappear. Parisian homes are filled with modern furniture with vintage touches. So your sofa can be a brand new mid-century inspired piece and the mirror on your wall can be over 100 years old. Parisian chic is about upgrading those things that need upgrading and treasuring those ideas that are old but still beautiful.

Victorian Gothic

The Victorian Gothic style is a style that has been hundreds of years in the making. Since the eclectic style appeared in the 1700s, it has been revived a few times. And now, it looks like it is making a comeback again. The style can best be described as filled with drama and movement. Dark furniture with rich velvets can create an intense look but modern conveniences should not be forgotten. The Victorians were big fans of innovation and would probably approve of our modern technology.

Art Deco (but make it pink)

After the Great Gasby became a film, the world fell in love with the glamour of Art Deco again. But Art Deco doesn’t need to be just black and white. If you have ever seen pictures of Miami, you will be familiar with Art Deco but with a colourful twist. Bubblegum pink bathrooms with bright blue tiles are a fun way to update your home to create those Miami vibes. Don’t be afraid to use colour for this trend, the bolder the better.

Hygge

Pronounced “hoo-gah”, this Danish trend has been taking the world by storm. Not only has it been trying to change people’s attitudes about winter, but it is also helping people to embrace the simple things in life. Hygge is not that different from the farmhouse style, and there are some overlaps. But while farmhouse focuses on natural materials, Hygge is about creating a cosy home all year round. Think warm blankets and chunky knits as soon as the weather gets a bit chilly.

Retro Vintage

This is one of those themes that is still being defined as people argue the minor details about it. However, vintage is defined as something that is less than 100 years old, and retro is something that is old but with a modern twist. The designs of the 1950s that invoke a feeling of the space age such as Smeg fridges and Sputnik patterns that make your home feel like the cartoon, The Jetsons. However, if you like this idea, your best bet is Googling “mid-century vintage” to help you narrow down your search.

The 1990s

The 1990s were an amazing time for fashion, and now people are choosing to bring those 90s vibes into their homes. The 1990s was about bold prints, neon signs, and inflatable furniture. To be honest, nobody wants to sit on an inflatable sofa but the idea still seems fun. Sponge painting the walls was a huge trend and no home would be seen without at least one room that had been dabbed gently with paint.
