Fire Incident at the Abandoned Sea Gypsy

Myrtle Beach Firefighters extinguished a fire at the abandoned Sea Gypsy Inn on Sunday, July 27, 2025. The Myrtle Beach Fire Department worked in 100 plus degree weather, sending one firefighter to the hospital.

MBFD reports that the firefighter was discharged and there were no injuries during the Sea Gypsy blaze.

The Sea Gypsy Inn, situated at 304 N Ocean Blvd in Myrtle Beach, SC 29577, was recognized for being a temporary beachfront hotel that provided affordable accommodations, a pool outdoors, and free parking facilities.

The hotel is not operating. A fire occurred on Sunday, July 27, 2025. Visible fire damage was observed on the top floor of the three-story building, leading to one firefighter being hospitalized. As of July 28, 2025, the cause of the fire had not been disclosed to the public.

Previously situated close to popular spots such as the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, Family Kingdom Amusement Park, and SkyWheel Myrtle Beach, the dated hotel provided accommodations featuring air conditioning, flat-screen TVs with cable, private bathrooms, complimentary Wi-Fi, and select rooms with kitchenettes or private balconies showcasing ocean vistas.

While some visitors praised its convenient location, reasonable rates, and hospitable personnel, criticisms were voiced regarding cleanliness, upkeep, and the absence of facilities like a dining establishment.

Like so many dated hotels in that area, the Sea Gypsy represents a time long since passed.
