A bill was introduced at the State House today by S.C. Representative Stewart Jones to repeal the S.C. gas tax for one year. The bill, if passed, will immediately save residents 26 cents per gallon on all gas purchases.

The bill supports an “America First” energy policy including opening the Keystone pipeline and moving beyond energy independence to energy dominance as well.

Horry County resident John Gallman came up with the idea after recently filling his tank at a local gas station. Said Gallman, “Yesterday I drove to Columbia to meet with a number of legislators to collaborate on helping get relief for SC families that are struggling with sky high prices at the pumps.”

As can be seen below, the resolution already has multiple elected state house sponsors which are written in ink on the resolution page.

Gallman and Jones make statements on the resolution.

Results Driven Activism

Benjamin Franklin once said, “Words may show a man’s wit, but actions his meaning.”

John Gallman has worked quietly and strategically, using seasoned judgment to build a network in the SC Statehouse in Columbia that has significant influence.

One of Gallman’s greatest gifts is his ability to collaborate and build bridges to empower others. Gallman often deflects to give others credit along the way. He states that he learned this from studying Ronald Reagan who once said “there is no amount of good you can do if you don’t care who gets the credit.”

The evidence of his influence can been seen in a bill designed to protect children’s rights H3569 (https://www.scstatehouse.gov/sess124_2021-2022/bills/3569.htm) which was introduced on January 12, 2022 in the House and now boasts 60 Cosponsors and has broad bipartisan support.

As recently as Monday, Gallman called for suspending the gas tax for 1 year and implementing a resolution to send a message to Washington that South Carolinians want an America First energy policy.

Gallman spent Tuesday afternoon in Columbia meeting with legislators and leadership from SCDOT seeking to get relief for hard working residents of Horry County. It appears his efforts are once again paying dividends as his friend Rep. Stewart Jones has put forth a resolution.
