David Hucks is a 12th generation descendant of the area we now call Myrtle Beach, S.C. David attended Coastal Carolina University and like most of his family, has never left the area. David is the lead journalist at MyrtleBeachSC.com

Last week, MyrtleBeachSC News came out with a video describing the near future for Horry County. Almost 8,000 Horry County residents watched. A few, local political insiders scoffed.

While we did not name names then, key players in this billion dollar “take over effort” are named today.

He held the post of Rector for the University of Virginia Board of Trustees. In 2017, he was listed as the 2nd most powerful man in Richmond, Va.

His name is William Goodwin Jr. He has ties to the Coastal [Carolina] Educational Foundation. He is a large property owner in Kiawah Island and a major player in tourism in Hilton Head and Kiawah.

While you may not recognize the name, as we will explain, his fingerprints have quietly been behind the major land deals in Horry County for more than the past 20 years.

As Richmond’s style weekly featured: While we can’t exactly peek at his bank account, it’s long been rumored Bill Goodwin is the metro area’s lone billionaire. Regardless, Goodwin wields enormous behind-the-scenes clout as a respected businessman and noted philanthropist. He currently leads Go Virginia’s newly-created, 25-member Richmond regional council, which will recommend state-funded grants for local economic development collaborations between business, higher education and government. Goodwin recently stepped down from the University of Virginia’s board of visitors after serving two years as rector, a position formerly held by Dominion Energy’s Tom Farrell, with whom Goodwin is currently serving on the search committee for a new Richmond school superintendent. Goodwin and his wife, Alice, have donated in more than $140 million to education and cancer research, including $40 million in donations to Virginia Commonwealth University. In the last couple years they’ve pledged to donate $150 million in seed money for an independent Richmond children’s hospital, though that effort appears stalled for now. Goodwin’s holdings include Richmond’s historic Jefferson Hotel, the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee, a Kiawah Island, South Carolina, luxury golf resort and the Sea Pines Resort in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

HORRY COUNTY LAND BUYS

In January 2018, a $12.9 million Horry County land purchase was covered by all local media: Horry County is buying over 3,700 acres on International Drive for $12.9 million.

Mark Lazarus
Former Horry County Council Chairman Mark Lazarus is now more powerful than ever. His behind the scenes operations make him among the most influential man in the county.

Said Horry County Council Chairman Mark Lazarus, at the time, “It’s going to be one of the biggest things we’ve seen happen in our area when it comes to conservation. To say the least, the people of Carolina Forest are going to be extremely pleased.”

The man most pleased with the deal, however, was William Goodwin Jr. As you will see, he purchased the land for pennies and sold it for $12.9 million.

Lazarus was the deal maker in this effort. Our report here will show that Lazarus has been the key engineer in all things connected to a future tourism game changer.

OUR SOURCE WRITES

Swamp Land Sure is Expensive in South Carolina

What if I told you that there is a billionaire in Virginia who bought 7500 acres of swamp land in Horry County for less than $6.5 million?

Then he sold less than 3800 of those acres for a total of $12,160,790.00.

You would probably think that guy must be a Hell of a salesman, huh?

What if I told you that YOU paid him more than $12 million for those 3800 acres of swamp land?

If you live in Horry County, YOU paid over $11 million for 3754 acres of swamp land that Mr. Billionaire paid less than $3.7 million to acquire.

The Billionaire paid less than $1000 per acre when he bought it, but YOU paid just under $3000.00 per acre to buy if from him. If you live in the State of South Carolina, YOU paid $1.1 million for less than 34 acres of Mr. Billionaire’s swamp land.

Mr. Billionaire paid a grand total of $11,658.50 for those 33.31 acres, at a rate of $350.00 per acre.

YOU paid him $33,023.12 for each acre.

What if I told you that that same billionaire did the same thing before in Richland County?

PART I – INTRODUCTION

I am a concerned South Carolina citizen. That is all you need to know. My name, my gender, my age, my political beliefs, my profession, and any other personal information is irrelevant to what I have to say. I am an independent voter with no affiliation with any political party. I am doing this for one reason: to point out potential corruption and shine a light to scatter the cockroaches.

I choose this blog site because, at least in Horry County, it is the only site that is unafraid to expose the power players in Myrtle Beach and their corruption.

I do not agree with a lot of the politics promoted on this site, but that doesn’t matter. I know that David Hucks will not refuse to print this out of cowardice or complicity with the corruptors, nor will he run to the power brokers and tell them what is coming.

I have been here for 46 years. In that time, I have seen the corruption first hand over and over again. I have a lawyer friend in Columbia. We were talking about just one of the examples of open corruption in Horry County (Alan Clemmons making deals to become the City of Myrtle Beach Attorney) and he just laughed.

This is what he said to me:

In my practice, I have discussed Horry County and Myrtle Beach with an agent of the DEA, three FBI agents, several state prosecutors, and a US Attorney. To a person, they all say Horry County is the most corrupt place in the Southeast, if not the entire country.”

Wow. One guy actually said they call it “Horror County.”

It made me start digging. Within 3 hours of casual internet searches, I was onto something. After a week of steady internet searching, I came up with the information included in this series of essays.

It only took one week to find this information on public websites. Could you imagine what a legitimate law enforcement officer could do with their ability to access bank records, tax records, and other non-public information?

Problem is, they won’t do it.

I wonder why that is?

These essays, if David continues to publish them, are about land deals in Horry. Land deals that stink to high heaven.

Land deals that smell like a buzzard belch, to be completely
honest. It is a lot to process, so I broke them up into five parts.

This is the first part which just presents the premise for these articles and introduces the reader to me.

The second part is just historical background to set the stage for the shady land deals. The third part is about the land deals themselves.

The fourth part will take us to Little River and what appears to be a consolidation of land by a very small group of powerful people.

Finally, the third part is pure speculation about what appears to be the end game of whoever is behind the land deals.

Let’s see if we can shake a few trees and see what falls out. What do you say?
