The Burgess area, Surfside Beach District 106 House seat is headed to a June 28th runoff.

Brian Sweeney is a Freedom Caucus minded conservative.

His opponent Attorney Val Guest is represented by the most powerful campaign manager in S.C. Walter Whetsell, who managed the Tom Rice, Jenna Dukes, Mark Lazarus, and Carla Schuessler campaigns, represents Val Guest. Whetsell famously represents most candidates endorsed by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

Whetsell won every race he represented, with the exception of Incumbent Congressman Tom Rice, who was defeated by Russell Fry. Fry previously held the District 106 S.C. State Representative seat.

Fry spoke on the Liz Callaway show earlier this week stating he would not be endorsing either of the two candidates running. Fry said he believed the voters should decide.

The election will be held on June 28th. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

Other candidates, of which Burgess and Surfside Beach, residents can vote on that day include: Resident First, County Council Chairman Candidate Johnny Gardner who is challenged by Walter Whetsell (Myrtle Beach Chamber) candidate Mark Lazarus. David Cox will be challenged by Helen Smith for Horry County School Board Chairman.
