In 2003, Aynor High School was awarded the Palmetto’s Finest Award. Palmetto’s Finest is an award given to the best schools in the state, according to the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.

Aynor’s then Principal Darrell Ricketts accepted the award on behalf of the school.

This coming Tuesday, voters will go to the polls. Ricketts is running for Horry County School Board Chairman.

The race features: David Cox, who holds the District 4 seat on the Horry County Board of Education; Darrell Ricketts, (now) an agriculture teacher at Green Sea Floyds High School; and Helen Smith, a former board chairman and retired cosmetologist.
