Candidates Largely Agree On Issues At Horry County Debate

At last night’s American Conservative Voices Debate, candidates for U.S. 7th Congressional District squared off stating why they were in the race. The candidates also spoke of issues that mattered most to them.

For the most part, the candidates agreed on a majority of similar issues.

Russell Fry did not attend the debate, but was scheduled. Incumbent Tom Rice was not invited to the debate as he has been censured the the SCGOP for his vote to impeach former President Donald Trump.

Garrett Barton Addresses American Conservative Voters

Dr. Garrett Barton earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2009. He earned an M.D. from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 2015.

Dr. Garrett Barton is a Family Medicine Specialist in Cheraw, SC. He is affiliated with medical facilities McLeod Health Cheraw and McLeod Regional Medical Center.

BARBARA ARTHUR ADDRESSES DEBATE ATTENDANTS

Barbara Arthur is a Hartsville native who is running for the U.S. Congress in the 7th Congressional District. Arthur is a Christian public speaker. Arthur is known for her outspoken stance on the growing threat of communism. On her personal website, Arthur states, “As a Cuban-American, I will fight hard against socialism because my family was ravaged by Castro’s communist regime. For me, this is personal.”

RICHARDSON OUTS RUSSELL FRY FOR NOT ATTENDING

Ken Richardson is the current Horry County School Board Chairman. Richardson oversees the largest budget in Horry County. Horry County Schools had a budget of Total Operations at $559,176,808 for the 2021 school year.

The district is made up of 56 schools within nine attendance areas: Aynor, Carolina Forest, Conway, Green Sea Floyds, Loris, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Socastee, and St. James. Horry County Schools has more than 45,000 students and is South Carolina’s third-largest school district.

45,000 students attend Horry County Schools annually.

Over 5,540 employees work for Horry County Schools making it the largest employer and job creator in the county.
