CBS recently made edits to a nationally televised interview with Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris.

Following the incident, Reese Boyd, the Horry County Republican party Chairman, issued a warning to the local station, labeling the interview as electioneering. Boyd also copied his notice about the network program to the FCC.

Reese stated, “The manner in which … the “60 Minutes” Program  conducted the interview was partisan and unfair to the  Republican candidate. It has been alleged, and widely reported,  that CBS engaged in “selective editing” so that the 60 Minutes broadcast would show the Vice President in a more favorable  light.“

Boyd wasn’t the only one expressing disagreement with the network interview. Respected journalists from various backgrounds, such as Tammy Bruce, also voiced their opinions.

In a post on X, Bruce stated, “”What CBS has done goes beyond biased questions, or even deciding to protect a candidate… when Kamala wanders off into one of her nonsense soliloquies… Manipulating what [she] actually says in order to make her seem more astute, disciplined, and intellectually capable of the job is at the very least a form of lying to the audience.

Horry County residents greatly admire Boyd’s upright stance, as he fearlessly takes on a mainstream media outlet that many believe has deviated from its journalistic past.

In the past, the network boasted its brand authority through the esteemed anchors like Walter Cronkite. However, presently, the channel is witnessing a decline in both viewership and national trust.

RE:! ! Formal Complaint re: “60 Minutes” Oct. 7 Broadcast

Dear Mr. Raff: 

On behalf of the Horry County Republican Party, I write to lodge  a formal complaint regarding the recent interview aired by your station, a CBS affiliate, on the CBS program, 60 Minutes, with  Vice President Kamala Harris, on October 7, 2024. 

The manner in which CBS, CBS News, and the “60 Minutes” Program  conducted the interview was partisan and unfair to the  Republican candidate. It has been alleged, and widely reported,  that CBS engaged in “selective editing” so that the 60 Minutes broadcast would show the Vice President in a more favorable  light. CBS and 60 Minutes have refused for over two weeks to  release the full, unedited version of the interview, when such  material is routinely and promptly released to the general  public for countless other interviews, through the show’s  website, www.60minutesovertime.com, and for matters of much less  public and political significance than the Kamala Harris  interview of October 7. 

Moreover, when CBS did finally release a statement on the  subject, it noted that Harris had accepted its invite for an  interview, but that Donald Trump had declined, openly revealing  a bias against Donald J. Trump. It should in no way be  necessary for Donald Trump to appear on the program, in order  for the contents of the 60 Minutes interview with Vice President  Harris to be fairly and accurately reported. I would like to  know what WBTW has done to pressure 60 Minutes and CBS to be  open and transparent in its handling of this issue, and in its  coverage of the 2024 Presidential Election generally, and of the  Donald Trump Campaign in particular.

The actions of CBS News, and of 60 Minutes, constitute  electioneering and, effectively, advocacy on behalf of the  Harris-Walz Campaign. We believe this is a violation of federal  election laws, and that it also is a rejection of the most basic  standards of fairness in broadcasting and media. 

Please consider this correspondence a formal complaint lodged  against CBS and against your station as the local CBS affiliate,  which broadcast the October 7 interview in the Myrtle Beach  area. I will follow up to discuss this matter with you further.
