The Citrus Bowl decided to select the South Carolina Gamecocks instead of Alabama for their game on December 31st at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, as reported by Brad Crawford of 247Sports. South Carolina, confirmed by Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer, has received an invitation and will be facing Illinois (9-3).

South Carolina football faced a challenging situation on Saturday, November 30th. Despite the lack of momentum and support from the crowd, they managed to stun Memorial Stadium by scoring late in the game and defeating No. 12 Clemson with a 17-14 victory in the Palmetto Bowl.
The Gamecock invitation to the Citrus Bowl was made possible by this key win against an instate rival.
With a score of 14-10 against the Tigers (9-3), the Gamecocks (9-3) faced a challenging 3rd-and-15 situation with only 1:18 remaining in the game. However, quarterback LaNorris Sellers managed to secure his second touchdown of the day, leading the team to victory through a remarkable nine-play, 75-yard scoring drive that lasted for four minutes.
Sellers completed 13 out of 21 passes for 164 yards and was responsible for the Gamecocks’ only touchdowns, in addition to rushing for 166 yards.
Coach Shane Beamer secured his second victory in Clemson, South Carolina, on Saturday, extending South Carolina’s winning streak to six consecutive wins. The win also marked his first triumph in the rivalry match of 2022.
Redshirt freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers leads the Gamecocks, supported by a top-ranked defense in both national and school history.
Kyle Kennard is a finalist for both the Lombardi Award and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, while Dylan Stewart is a finalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award.
After the regular season, Sellers started gaining recognition as one of the country’s premier players.
