The City of Myrtle Beach is currently exploring a new city logo for its branding purposes.
Meredith Denari, the Director of Communications and Creative Services Department, informed the city council on Tuesday morning that the city possesses an official seal but lacks a city logo. In a subsequent phone call, she revealed that this marked her third attempt at presenting new logo options to the council.
Denari stated that the city has paid the Zimmerman Agency, based in Florida, a total of $78,045.78 for their services thus far. She mentioned that the payment covered tasks beyond just creating the city logo.
Importance of a New City Logo
Nevertheless, the Myrtle Beach requires far beyond just an improvement to its city logo.
This week, Jimmy Gray, President of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber, stated in a press release, “This hasn’t been our best summer season ever. There’s certainly nobody that’s calling us saying, ‘You’re doing a great job, keep it up,’” Chamber President Jimmy Gray said. “The businesses are having a difficult summer, and with that being said, we’re not alone. We are a part of a national trend here.”
A fresh city logo will not help counter the continuous shootings from Spring into Summer that began on April 26th this year.
Anticipated closures of numerous businesses are likely in late August and September due to a significant decrease in summer tourism.
Mayor Brenda Bethune has the logo at the forefront of her thoughts moving into her re-election campaign this November.
So yes, we’re going to have a public input survey,” she said. “I anticipate it to be open for about a week, and I would expect that to come out and then next week or so.”
Denari mentioned that the survey will inquire about the hues, fresh logo concepts, and their impact on individuals.
She mentioned that the city has been using the same official seal on signs and letterhead since the 1970s.
Just to reiterate, the seal stays,” Mayor Brenda Bethune said during Tuesday’s meeting. “This is more for branding.”
