Classic Cars return to Myrtle Beach bring 10,000 enthusiasts

Today, 10,000 tourists flocked to the former mall area on 24th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach for the highly anticipated 36th Annual Run to the Sun Car and Truck Show, an event that vividly showcases the charm and beauty of classic cars. This yearly gathering has become a staple in the local community, drawing visitors from far and wide who share a passion for automotive history and culture.

Classic cars from various eras of Americana were proudly displayed, each vehicle telling its own unique story. From sleek 1950s Chevrolets to robust 1970s muscle cars, attendees had the chance to appreciate the craftsmanship and design that defined each decade. The event also featured rare models, including vintage Mustangs and Cadillacs, that have become iconic symbols of automotive excellence.

As spectators walked through the six acre grounds, they were immersed in a nostalgic atmosphere, with the sounds of engines revving and the scent of classic car polish filling the air. The event not only highlighted the vehicles themselves but also the camaraderie among car enthusiasts, with many sharing tips and stories about their own classic rides.

Today, the Run to the Sun Car and Truck Show featured the much-anticipated celebrity appearance of Joe and Amanda Martin from Martin Bros Customs, known for their work on the Iron Resurrection TV Show, now in its 7th Season on Discovery+ and YouTube. Their presence drew additional crowds as fans were eager for the opportunity to meet the stars and learn about their custom car builds and restoration projects.

Among the standout vehicles were classic cars that have appeared in beloved films such as James Bond 007’s ‘For Your Eyes Only’, ‘The Italian Job’, ‘True Romance’, ‘John Wick’, ‘Knight Rider’, ‘Dukes of Hazzard’, and ‘The A-Team’. Each car not only represents a piece of cinematic history but also evokes memories from the viewers and fans who grew up watching these films. The sight of these iconic vehicles brings a thrill that transcends generations.

The display included a variety of classic cars, from vintage sports cars that represent the peak of automotive engineering to classic muscle cars that defined a generation. This event is recognized as the largest gathering of classic cars on the East Coast, celebrated for its independence and community spirit. Spanning three days, it showcases over 3,500 cars and trucks manufactured before 1989. In addition to the impressive car displays, the show features approximately 150 vendors and sponsors, providing attendees with opportunities to purchase unique automotive memorabilia, tools, and gear. The wide expanse of six acres comes alive with excitement, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of 10,000 spectators each year.

The biggest group of classic cars shown on the east coast, known for its independence, lasts for three days and showcases more than 3,500 cars and trucks made before 1989. Additionally, it boasts 150 vendors and sponsors, drawing in 10,000 spectators across fifty-six acres.

Michael Leaventon, the dedicated organizer and manager of the classic car show, shared insights into the extensive preparations required for such a large event. He mentioned, “We are looking forward to welcoming classic car enthusiasts from over 28 states right here in Myrtle Beach. Our team has worked tirelessly for the past year to ensure that everything runs smoothly. We are excited to present forty winner plaques, which will be awarded to deserving participants by our staff, partners, and sponsors.” Leaventon’s commitment to excellence contributes significantly to the event’s success, ensuring a memorable experience for all attendees.
