Clifford Jones has been hired as the new Superintendent of Horry County Schools.
Horry County Schools (HCS) in South Carolina boasts an enrollment of over 48,000 students, making it the third-largest school district in the state.

Clifford Jones devoted his entire professional career of 23 years to serving in Fulton County Schools, which includes the regions outside Atlanta, Georgia. He began his journey in 2001 as a social studies teacher at a high school and later became the principal of the same school.
Cliff Jones, a born and raised Atlantan, has dedicated over two decades of his career to the esteemed Fulton County School system. Throughout this period, he has steadily advanced his role and made a significant difference within the district. Initially joining as a history teacher at the high school level, Clifford Jones later assumed the positions of assistant principal and principal at Milton High School before ultimately earning a promotion to a leadership role at the district office.
From 2014 onwards, Mr. Jones held various leadership positions within the education system. Initially, he served as the Executive Director of Accountability and later as the Area Superintendent in the Northeast Learning Community. Since 2018, he has assumed the role of Chief Academic Officer. In this capacity, he oversaw the work of seven zone superintendents, as well as the Learning and Teaching department and the Student Support Department. Notable achievements under his leadership include the successful implementation of the Every Child Reads campaign, the expansion of Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education programs, the reduction of schools on the federal accountability list, and the establishment of high dosage small group tutoring.
Mr. Clifford Jones possesses an MBA degree from Kennesaw University, a master’s in Educational Leadership from Georgia State, and another master’s in Modern History from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Additionally, he has acquired LETRS certification and has recently accomplished a certificate program from AASA Aspiring Superintendents Academy.
