The Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers won a slugfest against the Marshall University Thundering Herd tonight.

Despite an offense that struggled, Coastal beat Marshall 24 – 13.

The victory puts the Chants at the top of the Sun Belt Group A division with a 7-1 record.

The Chants only scored 3 points after the first quarter. Their offense was stymied by one of the best defenses in the Sun Belt Conference.

Marshall defeated Notre Dame at Notre Dame earlier this year.

Coastal will play its conference arch rival, Appalachian State, this coming Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Brooks Stadium in Conway, S.C.

Last year, App State beat Coastal Carolina on their home field in Boone, N.C.

The Chanticleers are bowl eligible and hope to win the conference. Closing games against App State, Virginia, and James Madison will prove tough challenges for CCU.

A Sun Belt conference championship has been the goal of the Chanticleers since the team’s first Fall game of 2022.
