The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will play the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday, November 22nd at Williams Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C.
The South Carolina Gamecocks are heavily favored to win the game against Coastal Carolina. ESPN’s analytics give the Gamecocks a 93.4% chance of winning, while betting odds and historical results also point to a South Carolina victory. However, Coastal Carolina is currently on a four-game winning streak, which could make them a tough opponent.
This will mark the third occasion that these teams have faced each other in football. Their earlier encounters took place in the 2010s, beginning in 2013 when the Gamecocks triumphed with a score of 70-10 at Williams-Brice Stadium. They faced off again five years later, with South Carolina securing a 49-15 victory at home to kick off the 2018 season.
Upcoming Challenges for the Gamecocks
Coastal Carolina was competing in the FCS division in 2013 and transitioned to the Sun Belt in 2017. This year, the Chanticleers are experiencing a successful season that may lead them to a chance to compete for the Sun Belt conference championship at the conclusion of the season.
CCU holds a record of 6-3 for the season and 5-1 in conference competition, sitting one game behind James Madison in the East division. The two teams are set to face off in Conway after both travel to Columbia the week prior.
Coastal suffered two non-conference defeats at the start of the season, bringing their record to 1-2. The season began with a 48-7 defeat against Virginia, followed by a 38-0 shutout at home against East Carolina on September 13.
The South Carolina Gamecocks (3-6, 1-6 SEC) must secure victories in their last three games to qualify for a bowl for the second consecutive year. This challenging journey kicks off—and may conclude—when they face an undefeated Texas A&M squad on Saturday at Kyle Field.
Following their matchup against Coastal this weekend, the Gamecocks will finish the regular season with a home game against Clemson on November 29. This game is scheduled to start at noon and will be broadcast on ABC or ESPN.
