Columbia, SC – The National Association for Gun Rights and Palmetto Gun Rights are issuing a statement of opposition to a suspicious dark money group called the Palmetto Truth Project. A recent spate of mailers, texts, emails, and social media posts designed to mislead voters ahead of the state’s primary election prompted the announcement.
“The lies, deceit, and smear tactics of the Palmetto Truth Project have been disgusting,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “Now that we know there’s a direct correlation between uniparty establishment in Columbia and the ‘“Truth’” Project, House Speaker Murrell Smith should be ashamed of the falsehoods being spun under his leadership.”
Who is behind the Palmetto Truth Project?

Shady political operative Walter Whetsell is behind the Palmetto Truth Project. Whetsell is the political operative that runs hit mailers for candidates who dare run against the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce.
This includes known local conservatives Shannon Grady and Brian Sweeney. Whetsell represents Attorney Val Guest and Former Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Board President Carla Schuessler.
Today, the Group Conservative action choose to counter dishonest text messages and mailers with the truth.
Says the National Association for Gun Rights
The lawmakers targeted by the truth project are in fact the most pro-gun members of the South Carolina House who advocated for the strongest possible versions of Constitutional Carry over the objections of weak Republican leadership.
Executive Director of Palmetto Gun Rights, Tommy Dimsdale, aired his opposition to the Palmetto Truth Project’s stance, “The establishment class in Columbia are using every dirty trick in the book to distort records and trash the reputations of pro-gun lawmakers that forced them to pass Constitutional Carry this past year.”
Dimsdale went further saying, “Now that it’s come to light that the establishment class consultant group is behind these attacks, it just confirms what we knew all along.”
Representatives from the National Association for Gun Rights and Palmetto Gun Rights both vowed to set the record straight and encourage gun owners to reject narratives from leadership in Columbia and the Palmetto Truth Project during the heated primary season.

We are proud to announce the 2024 state legislative Republican primary endorsements from South Carolina’s
Conservative Future.
We need leaders in the legislature who will limit the size of government, increase economic opportunity for all citizens, expand school choice, support judicial reform, and protect life.
South Carolina’s Conservative Future will launch a robust, targeted effort in support of these endorsed candidates. Since 2020, the organization has endorsed in 35 elections. Endorsed candidates were successful in 32 of those races, which included defeating five incumbent Democratic legislators.
