Construction on Myrtle Beach’s 24th Avenue North ocean outfall begins

Construction begins next week on Myrtle Beach’s 24th Avenue North ocean outfall. This is the fifth ocean outfall project inside the city limits.

24th Avenue North ocean outfall

The ocean outfall will replace 11 stormwater pipes on the beach when complete.  Ocean outfalls and stormwater pipes filter sediment, improve water quality and help catch trash before runoff water reaches the ocean.

The public will first see crews building the trestle, which will extend 1,500 feet out to sea.  A crane will use the trestle to excavate the ocean floor and install the outfall’s large, concrete pipe.  Beach construction is expected to begin September 10, with the first trestle piles on schedule for an October 1 installation.  Myrtle Beach’s other four ocean outfalls are located at 25th Avenue South, Fourth Avenue North, Fourteenth Avenue North and 53rd Avenue North.  The entire project is scheduled to be complete by early 2026.

The public can expect construction activity to occur between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday-Saturday. No Sunday work is planned unless necessary.
