Conway area forest fire now contained

Horry County Fire and Rescue report that a forest fire which broke out in the area of the 1000 block of Gilbert Road outside of Conway is now contained.

At 1:43 p.m., January 4th, Horry County Fire Rescue was dispatched to an approximate six-acre forest fire in the area of the 1000 block of Gilbert Road outside of Conway.

Crews worked to protect nearby residential structures off Pope Martin Road.

The South Carolina Forestry Commission assisted.

At 4:35 p.m. yesterday afternoon Horry County Fire and Rescue reported that the incident was under control.

However, smoke will likely remain visible in the area for an extended amount of time.

Horry County Fire and Rescue continues to monitor the area.
