In a statement released to the press, current Horry County Auditor, Lois Eargle, explains why she endorses R.A. Johnson.

Johnson’s challenger, Beth Calhoun assists Lois Eargle in the Auditor’s office. Yet, Eargle is choosing to endorse R.A. Johnson for the Horry County Auditor’s seat.

There have been some questions of why I endorsed R.A. Johnson for Auditor instead of my employee, Beth Calhoun. Beth has been a loyal employee of the Auditor’s office for years,” Eargle writes.

I know R.A. Johnson. I have watched him grow and mature. As Deputy Treasurer, R.A. has the leadership qualities that involves running the (Treasurer’s) office when the Treasurer is absent and taking part in many meetings with various department heads in county administration,” Eargle adds.

Eargle states, “R.A. better understands the relationships needed between the Assessor’s, Treasurer’s and Auditor’s offices for the county tax and collection system to operate effectively and has participated in many discussions about making those offices work efficiently. It is extremely important that they continue to work together as they have throughout my career.

Eargle says it is not about her nor about the individuals involved on a personal level. Eargle says, “It is about what I believe is best for the Auditor’s office going forward.”
