The teenager informed the authorities that she accompanied a friend on a visit to her grandmother’s residence, where Daveanna Michelle Huggins also resides.
Subsequently, the grandmother departed with her boyfriend. In an inebriated state, Daveanna Michelle Huggins proceeded to shout at the friend of the victim, as indicated in the police report. The victim intervened, urging Huggins to cease drinking excessively and refrain from yelling at her friend. In response, Huggins asserted that the victim should not dictate her actions, citing her adult status, according to the report.
The victim told Daveanna Michelle Huggins she was not acting mature, prompting Huggins to stand up and choke the teen. The victim lost consciousness, and when alert again, Huggins allegedly slammed her to the floor and punched her face twice.
Huggins then dragged the victim into the laundry room, slammed her head against the washing machine three times, and scratched her face with her fingernails. The victim called her grandmother, who arrived and was confronted by Huggins.
The victim had injuries when the police arrived at the scene. The relationship between Daveanna Michelle Huggins and the teenager remains unclear.
Huggins was taken into custody on September 12 and subsequently incarcerated at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
