Homeopathic Medicine

Homeopathy or Homeopathic Medicine is a form of alternative treatment distinct from conventional medicine. It is rooted in the belief that with a bit of support, the body is capable of healing itself.

In homeopathy, sometimes what is causing the illness is used mildly in a bid to trigger an immune system response. Basically, the same thing that happens with vaccines.

Usually, however, the practice involves the use of natural substances like herbs, minerals, spices, animal products, and more in minute doses to trigger self-healing.

Does Homeopathy Work?

Homeopathy is pretty popular, with a huge percentage of patient reports suggesting that it works. However, researchers arenโ€™t convinced. Most studies come up with mixed conclusions.

Opponents argue that the practice canโ€™t be scientifically backed, suggesting that whatever benefits people see are a result of the placebo effect.

Still, if homeopathy works because users believe so hard it does, triggering a chemical response in the body producing relief, thatโ€™s pretty much the self-healing theory they were going for.

Whether you choose to try homeopathy or not, itโ€™s important to be aware of its pros and cons.

The Pros

Homeopathy is a distinct system with certain advantages. Letโ€™s examine them in detail.

It is Safe

Homeopathic medicine is generally sourced from natural ingredients that are then watered down. The chances of adverse reactions are little to none. Unlike regular medicines, you won’t have to worry about dependence after long term use or withdrawal when you stop.

The safety of homeopathic medicines contributes to its popularity. Since thereโ€™s no harm in trying it, you have nothing to lose.

Itโ€™s Cheaper

For those who swear by homeopathy, thereโ€™s also another aspect to it they love: the treatment is cost-effective.

When you consider the skyrocketing cost of medical care, you start to appreciate the cheaper alternatives. Homeopathic remedies donโ€™t cost anywhere as much as pharmaceuticals.

Take Alongside Other Drugs

If you are on other medications, you donโ€™t have to pause or discontinue them to try homeopathic remedies. As we mentioned, these remedies are usually taken in such a diluted form that they donโ€™t cause any side effects.

Homeopathy also allows you to combine different natural remedies like cannabis and psilocybin from magic mushrooms and benefit from both. In this case, the dose is too small or too diluted to avoid negative reactions.

In conventional medicine, combining medications is strictly discouraged without a doctorโ€™s supervision. The same doesnโ€™t necessarily apply to homeopathy.

It is Holistic

Homeopathy is a holistic treatment focusing on your whole body rather than specific areas. While experts can offer targeted treatments, the whole concept is based on stimulating and strengthening your immune system to combat illnesses.

With your bodyโ€™s defenses strengthened, your system can fight off health issues and heal naturally.

The Cons

Regardless of the positive reviews still has certain disadvantages worth knowing.

It May or May Not Work

There just isn’t enough research behind homeopathy to prove its effectiveness. As such, it canโ€™t be a substitute for modern medicine.

Going in, you should know that homeopathy may or may not work for you because the active ingredients are so watered down they may not have any effect: good or otherwise.

It May Be Slow

Considering treatment is focused on triggering self healing, it may be a while  before you see positive effects.

Doctor Skills Arenโ€™t Guaranteed

One of the reasons homeopathy doesn’t work for many people is that you canโ€™t guarantee the knowledge of a particular practitioner. Thereโ€™s nothing like a globally recognized curriculum they go through. Basically, some homeopathy doctors have knowledge that others donโ€™t have.

Can Be Risky

While homeopathic remedies fall under the FDAโ€™s oversight, thereโ€™s really safety or quality assurance regarding whatโ€™s used. Some practitioners are known to use heavy metals and chemicals in their ingredients, which can be dangerous.

It Has a Limit

Homeopathy is not something you want to resort to in the case of an emergency. Thatโ€™s an area where conventional medicine has an edge.

If youโ€™re suffering from a serious illness like cancer, heart disease, or diabetes, itโ€™s best to go to a hospital. Homeopathy wonโ€™t do anything for you when youโ€™re in need of urgent medical care.

Homeopathic medicine appears to be a safe treatment option that may be of benefit if youโ€™re working with an experienced practitioner. The practice certainly has some downsides as well, making it important to learn more about it.
