There are very few times you think about your back and how it feels until you’re in pain. It’s the same way as when your nose is blocked with a cold – you don’t appreciate how it feels to breathe until you can’t! Well, you also don’t appreciate how your back holds you up and keeps your body upright until there is a pain in the back that you can’t seem to cope with.

Whether you are an active athlete dealing with pain because of a sports injury, or you’re living a sedentary lifestyle, back pain can happen to every single person. It doesn’t matter your age, either, but with the right pain management, you can get on top of it and feel your best again. If you’re unsure as  to what is happening and why you have pain in your back, we’ve got five possibilities for you!

  • You’re working out wrong. Did you know that your workout could be a problem for your back.? When you’re running, you need to ensure your feet are hitting the ground in the right way and wearing the right shoes. Your movement has to be initiated from your hips rather than your feet. Adjusting your feet will help!
  • You’re having difficulties with your shoulders. Your spine health matters and as it’s supporting a range of nerves, muscles and bones in your body, you could be dealing with referred back pain because of issues in your shoulders. You should be able to mobilize your shoulders properly, and that lack of mobility can affect your back.
  • You sit and stand incorrectly. Posture is important if you want to avoid back pain. From the way you sit upright while you work to the way you slouch when you stand, you need to work on your posture if you want to reduce the pain in your back. Stretching your body properly will help you to work your muscles and strengthen the support around your spine.
  • You’ve got an injury. Another good reason you have back pain is that you have an existing muscle injury and your form when you lift is incorrect.   • You don’t have supportive furniture. Believe it or not, the furniture you have in the house is going to make a big difference as to whether your back is in pain or not. The chairs, the bed, the sofa – it all needs to be ergonomic and right for your back. You should be supported as much as possible and it starts with your furniture and goes on from there.

Everyone deals with back pain at some point in life, but if you know how to manage it well, you’re going to be able to feel comfortable as much as possible. Take yourself to the doctor and make sure that you are getting the best advice so that you can overcome the pain in your back, whether muscular or spinal.
