Arrest made in Myrtle Beach murder of VA Basketball player

Gary Abraham has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting and murder of a Roanoke teenager in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Saturday.

MBPD said the Aiken Department of Public Safety, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, Horry County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division assisted in the case.

Gary Abraham, 18, of Aiken, South Carolina, has been charged with one count of murder, three counts of attempted murder, and one count of possession of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

On July 20, just after 1:00 a.m., a shooting occurred in the 1600 block of North Ocean Boulevard.

When Taylor, 16, was shot at the beach access on 16th Avenue North on July 20, he was on vacation with an AAU basketball team. Multiple people were seen running from the scene around 1:15 a.m., according to Myrtle Beach police.

On vacation with family and friends, Jakolbi Taylor, 16, died at the scene.

The Ted C. Collins Law Enforcement Center held Abraham’s first bond hearing on Sunday.

Abraham’s bond was denied at that hearing.
