Sometimes it can be hard to make sure you keep your activity levels up, This can be due to just not knowing what you could do and not thinking you have the time. There can be many reasons you would want to stay active and exercise more, this could be health related and advised by your doctor or you may just want to be healthier for yourself or a holiday you are going on. There are plenty of reasons to stay active and exercise but just having a reason is not enough to actually do it, it can be hard to keep up motivation and actually know what you can do to get active.

If you are looking to be more active and exercise more but you are unsure what you can do or whether you are able to then hopefully, this guide will give you some ideas of what you can do to be more active and remain active even if you feel you may not have time. Try and park in a far space from your destination

A simple way to burn more calories in your day and get moving without even really feeling it is to park further away when you are parking your car this will mean you have further to walk and will actually burn more calories, this is a minor step but it is still going to be getting you more active.

Try to take the stairs more

Another great way for you to increase your activity levels while just going about your day is to make sure you are taking the stairs instead of lifts and escalators. Just like walking from a further space you are going to be increasing your calories burnt and getting your heart rate up. Obviously if you are working and taking the stairs is going to get you all hot and sweaty then you are not going to want to do it all the time but if you incorporate taking the stairs where you can in everyday life it can have a great impact.

Don’t drive to work

Depending on where you live you should try to walk or cycle to work, what this will do is allow you to increase your fitness and exercise while doing something you had to do that day anyway. It is best to make sure your place of work has facilities for when you get there should you choose to cycle or run, you may need a shower or changing facility for when you get there, so bear that in mind before you go for it.

Get active around your office

If you work in an office you may not think you have time to get active but you can do so while in the office. Try to get up and take a walk around every hour or so. This way you can stretch out and take a minute while also getting active. You may think a little walk around here and there will not have an impact but built up over the day you will kick start a good calorie burn and pair that with healthy eating and living and it will have a great impact. Also try and stand every now and then at our desk. Just getting up and sitting down is a form of keeping active and also helps you to stretch out should you sit around for a long period of the day.

Maintain and care for your home

A great way to get active while also getting things done is just caring for your home, there are lots of things you can do when it comes to caring for your home and garden so you can get active while also keeping on top of chores you may have to do. Firstly tend to your garden and plants this will get you moving by cutting the lawn, and trimming the plants or hedges you will by the end of it have got your heartrate up and in turn also burnt some calories, if you were to spend an hour or more doing this then you are going to have basically done a full blown workout. Also just doing simple things around the home like general housekeeping will get you active and burning calories, going up and down hoovering and mopping is a great way to get the heart rate going. 

Spend time with the family

When it comes to family there is no better way to get active, if you have kids then just running around and playing with them is a great way to get active. Kids are always active and running around so being able to keep up with them and play with them is going to help you stay active with them. A great way to get active with your family is to walk your dog, not only should you be walking them anyway but you are going to be exercising at the same time as exercising your dog, a dog is a great way to stay active while also keeping them happy and active also. 

Actually workout

Obviously one of the best and main ways you can stay active is to actually workout, sometimes it can be tough with not having time or not actually being motivated to but if you can you should. Try going out walking or for a run to begin with, you do not have to go far just getting out for a bit will be enough, also you do not have to be doing anything too vigorous the main thing is to enjoy it not to workout to the point of none enjoyment. You can also workout from home so instead of having to go out or go to the gym you are able to just do it from home really easily these days. There are youtube videos full of workouts to do from home, from yoga to full body Hiit workouts there are plenty to do and you usually need the minimum amount of equipment. The great thing about getting active at home is it reduces costs for you with no gym membership needed and little equipment needed to, it also allows you to do it when you have small amounts of free time so there is no commute needed to get to the gym.

Take up hobbies

One of the best ways to get active while also doing something you enjoy is to take up a new hobby, there are so many sports and activities you can do that will get you active. Pick something you enjoy and go for it, a popular hobby for people looking to get active is hiking and walking which can be made into a long weekend and trip that you do with friends. Most habbies people do are sports so you are definitely going to get fitter and become more active doing a sport and this way you are going to be able to enjoy it more and make new friends in the process. With hobbies they can be time consuming however so make sure you can commit to the new hobby before you think of taking one up otherwise you may end up not being able to do it as much as you would like.

Adapt different things

The list here has many different things that can also be adapted to anything you want to do, so you do not have to take every activity at face value. You can try and adapt them to your ability and also to the time you have to do them. You can adapt anything to make it more active. These are all just ideas but use them to build up a way for you to become more active and exercise more while using your time wisely and making sure everything is to your ability. If you try and do something that is not to your ability or that you struggle with then you are not going to enjoy it and motivation will be hard to come by so adapt everything as you get fitter so it also isn’t too easy and you can stay motivated to keep going.
