S.C. Highway 22, known as the Conway Bypass, has completely flooded between Highway 90 and Highway 905.  The road is not passable.  SCDOT asks motorists to please use Highway 501 for East To West traffic to and from the S.C. coast.

The section of S.C. Highway 22, now under water, is a portion of future I-73.   MyrtleBeachSC news was told by engineers as late as just this past Sunday that the road was unlikely to flood.

Local politicians, including Representative Alan Clemmons, State Senator Luke Rankin, and U.S. Congressman Tom Rice made the most of a Wednesday visit by President Donald Trump to promote our immediate need for the interstate as a hurricane evacuation route.

Current costs to build the interstate, not on an elevated platform,  from the coast to I-95 are estimated at $2.4 billion.   Estimates for building the road much like Highway 526 are $6 billion.  The highway 526 expressway is completely built on an elevated platform which runs from Mt. Pleasant to Hollywood, S.C.
