A Mamdani win will impact Horry County’s population within months.
Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic Socialist, has a 50% likelihood of winning the mayoral election in New York City this November. The man, in truth, is a socialist.
While this will directly impact NY City, areas that are fed by the city’s economy include: Philadelphia Pennsylvania, the entire state of New Jersey, Bridgeport Connecticut, Greenwich Connecticut, the State of New York, White Plains NY, and practically the entire Northeast corridor.
The total population of New York State, Connecticut, Philadelphia, and New Jersey is approximately 31.4 million people. This includes:
- New York State: Around 19.6 million.
- Connecticut: Roughly 3.7 million.
- Philadelphia: Approximately 1.6 million.
- New Jersey: Around 9.5 million.
Currently, Horry County has 411,000 residents.
In 2024, South Carolina ranked as the top state people moved to in the United States, as reported by PODS Moving and Storage. The Myrtle Beach area to Wilmington area, covering portions of both South Carolina and North Carolina, emerged as the most popular destinations in these states.
MIGRATION BOOM
During a Thursday meeting last week that our news team attended, experts told MyrtleBeachSC News that if Mamdani is victorious, expect the population of Horry County to double within 15 months and potentially triple within 3 years.
Horry County’s population is projected to reach 1.2 million residents under those conditions.
Horry County’s Problems
Horry County’s farm to market road infrastructure is a major concern due to a 15-year lag in development.
Last year, the Horry County government advocated for a $6 billion RIDE IV tax proposal, which allocated funds for I-73.
Horry County’s Population Growth
MyrtleBeachSC News played a crucial role in previously opposing the initiative, successfully preventing its approval for over two decades. In 2024, we supported Ride IV.
We saw the population avalanche that was coming.
The population increase cannot be properly accommodated by farm-to-market roads such as Highway 701, Highway 90, Highway 544, Highway 9, Highway 905, Highway 57, Highway 378 and Highway 317.
Highway 707, despite improvements, is not equipped to handle the increase in population either.
Grand Strand Water and Sewer lacks the underground infrastructure capacity to accommodate this surge in population.
FOCUS ON TOURISM
Horry County administrations have mainly emphasized tourism, neglecting real estate infrastructure and population growth concerns that are now quickly emerging.
Horry County schools are going to be overwhelmed and short of staff.
LEADERSHIP NEEDED
Our news team was advised by multiple experts last Thursday that it is now too late to plan effectively.
Proper planning has been lacking in our coastal cities, rural towns, and county government.
Horry County needs level 5 leadership unlike any time in its history.
As political shifts occur, Horry County’s population will experience significant changes due to migration patterns influenced by the lack of economic opportunities in New York City.
