When it comes to taking care of our health, we usually don’t think about our eyes unless there is a problem such as having trouble seeing or pain. But like other aspects of your health, there are things that you need to do in order to keep your vision as good as possible for as long as possible.

Visit the optometrist regularly

Having your vision checked annually is very important. Not only will it show any deterioration in sight, for which you might need glasses or contacts, but can also identify any more serious conditions at an early stage, meaning you’re more likely to have them treated successfully. If you do wear glasses or contacts already, your optometrist will be able to make sure your prescription is still the correct one for you, reducing eye strain and headaches. Also, the eye care center located here is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology and experienced staff who can provide comprehensive eye exams to help maintain your eye health. Eye care professionals can also give you advice on how to take care of your eyes and recommend any necessary treatments or lifestyle changes. With regular check-ups, you can catch potential problems early on and prevent them from getting worse.

Buy a quality pair of sunglasses

Squinting in the sun isn’t only bad for wrinkles, but for your eyes too. Protect them by having a good quality pair of sunglasses with you at all times. They should block out a high percentage of UA and UVB rays. Try a pair from the Buddy Optical range to keep your eyes protected.

Use sufficient lighting

When you’re reading or doing other tasks, having enough light to do these is important for avoiding eye strain and headaches. As well as the main lights and lamps in a room, having a task light which you can adjust as you need it is a good idea.

Set up your workspace correctly

A lot of us spend our days in front of a screen for work, which can be terrible for our overall health, as well as our eyes. When setting up your desk, the top of your screen should be level with your eyes and approximately an arm’s length away from you.

Set brightness and contrast levels to a setting you’re comfortable with and angle your screen so that it doesn’t show the glare of the sun or any lamps behind you.

You are what you eat

Like the rest of your body, what you eat and drink can have an effect on your eyes. Keep to a healthful diet that is full of vitamins and minerals and keep well hydrated too.

Use a humidifier and eye drops

If you live or work in a dry environment, or are in a building with air conditioning, you can find that your eyes dry out and feel uncomfortable. There are a few ways to deal with this such as having some good quality eye drops and using a humidifier in your home in order to put some moisture back in the air.

Your eyes are an important part of your health, treat them as you would any other part of your body and take steps to protect them as much as possible. While it’s common to have age-related vision issues, you want to keep your eyes as healthy as you can for the long term.
