Marlene (or Marleny as she is known in Spanish) is a mentor, teacher, cross-cultural trainer, storyteller, writer, and for those who have been under her leadership or simply sat across the table from her, she is a mirror of destiny. Her love of word and image were formed early on by one of her heroes, Dr. Seuss. If you asked those who know her well, they would describe her a compassionate, funny, wise, curious, honest, real, strong, sensitive and totally human which comes out as she teaches and writes. She sees all of life, even the most mundane, through faith and believes that who we become as we live this side of the veil is what matters not the journey itself or our circumstances. Marleny Hucks has spent her life crossing bridges. She comes from a diverse background of ministry roles and contexts as well as has transitioned in and out of the business world. Having lived outside the country as well as traveled extensively she has a fascination with culture causes her to live her life within a global mosaic no matter where her feet are planted. Marlene currently lives in South Carolina with her husband David, who owns a news company but who she says is a “crime fighter”, bringing light into darkness in their systems of their city. No one wants to hear that they look tired. It’s a clear hint that they’re not coming across as fresh or healthy, and it also tells people that you’re not looking your best. Whether it’s because of the stress that you’re dealing with in your daily life, insomnia because you can’t get a decent night sleep, or you are dealing with a daily barrage of news, you need to make sure that you are looking and feeling fresh. Here are some of the ways that you can stop looking so tired so that people will stop making comments.

  • Grab that cold brew. Stop hitting the snooze button even if you want those extra five minutes in bed. A cold shower, a steamy bath, and an icy rinse will get your senses going in the morning. Getting up bright for the morning is going to help you to look and feel less tired. A cold shower can help your skin feel rejuvenated, and a soothing heated cleanser can steam the lines of the cold and give your circulation a buzz. Add some warm compresses for dry eyes afterwards and you will brighten up the whites of your eyes and look more sparkling than ever.
  • Moisturize damp skin not dry skin. When you finish showering, your skin can often feel tight because of the soap you have used. Timing and technique can really matter, so I can sit up making sure that you block your face lightly and apply a hydration frame. This will help your skin to plump up, and if you wait too long you lose the absorption window that you are trying to capture where your emollients will work the best. Make sure you are gently massaging in that moisturizer – too hard, and you’re going to end up rubbing your face raw.
  • Freshen up those eyes. We often carry exhaustion in our eyes, from the dark circles underneath to the wrinkles around them. You want to make sure that your eyes look fresh so that your whole body feels it, and we talked about having warm compresses for dry eyes used on your skin and your eyes after a shower. Those, plus being well hydrated will help your eyes look and feel fresh
  • Get your skincare routine sorted out. When you are looking tired, stress skin feels temperamental, or it can become ashy or sallow. Expression lines will sink in deeply when this happens, but you can fake your best skin with the best skin care routine and make up you can find. Where you can, go and see a dermatologist.
  • Step away from the bronzer. Instinct says to go sunny and beachy, but you don’t want to go with shiny! Don’t go to the south town or the bronzing powder. These are good for your best days or your evenings out, but to restore glow make sure you have a creamy pink or peach blush to enhance the color on your face.
