Ownership of a marijuana dispensary has never been easier in the U.S. with most states now legally able to sell various legal and medicinal CBD and pot products from rich buds to candies to shakes. Even the first marijuana megastore is about to open for business, or so states the major cannabis company, KOLAS.

Said to be a sign of how fat and wide the industry has blossomed, the 7,700 square-foot Sacramento, CA, megastore will feature pot-laced favorites including flowers, pre-rolls, and gummies. Says the KOLAS Marketing and Communications director, this new big location is not just about making money. One of its major aims is to emphasize marijuana education. He also said the “canna-curious” is one of the fastest growing groups in the U.S. They might be on the fence, so to speak, when it comes to purchasing marijuana products, but once educated, it’s likely they will dive right in.

Another way the many marijuana dispensaries are said to be attracting new customers is by providing cheap and easy-to-use consumption devices. According to a new report by MJBiz Daily, with U.S. dispensaries having recently been faced with crashing flower and bud prices that have resulted in depressed profit margins, some retailers have chosen to place a greater emphasis on the sale of certain concentrates.

This is said to be a major pivot in how pot dispensaries have been doing business. Stand-alone pot concentrates like shatter and wax have been viewed for a long time as products intended for only the most hard-core of cannabis consumers. But this stigma has further been exacerbated by complicated and clunky dab rigs that cost upwards of $200. They require torches, nails, and other expensive equipment to make them operate properly.

But these days, some dispensaries are choosing to offer an alternative for the high-end devices preferred by the more experienced cannabis connoisseur to inexpensive, simple, one-click battery-powered pens engineered specifically for newbie appeal. Sometimes, cheap, easy-to-operate devices are offered at a discount.

The initial result? MJBiz states that an estimated 10 percent increase in legal cannabis sales has been realized over the past twelve months. It’s also clear that consumption devices are the major reason for the increase. All across the U.S. recreational and medicinal concentrate market sales are said to have spiked by $1.9 billion in 2020 to close to $2.5 billion last year alone.

Projected sales for 2024 are expected to fall in the $3.2 billion range, or so claims the Chicago-based cannabis analytics company, the Brightfield Group. Education remains a large factor in the ballooning sales. If consumers are educated about the simple-to-use consumptions devices, the dispensaries are said to increase their concentrate sales. This is of paramount importance when flower revenue is plateauing.

Says one Los Angeles-based legalized marijuana expert, education about the simple marijuana consumption devices is all about normalization of the product and its medicinal qualities.

No Longer Just for Aficionados

Although they were developed over 20 years ago, concentrates like budder, badder, shatter, and wax, are considered new to the legalized cannabis newcomer. Just a few years ago, new varieties like crystals and diamonds arrived on the scene to much fanfare and excitement. And then there’s the more traditional hashish which harkens back several thousand years. Where legalized, it remains a bestseller, however.

It’s only been over the past decade that cannabis concentrate products have proliferated in U.S. dispensaries. One of the major reasons many retailers have been able to increase their concentrate sales is because they’ve been able to undo the pigeonhole cannabis products that were perceived to be developed for veteran or hard-core aficionados and make them seem more desirable to newcomers.

By utilizing tulip-shaped glass bulb devices like the concentrate vapor when heated, newbie consumers can take small sips of the liquified concentrate vapor. They can then better enjoy the flavonoids and terpenes almost like they are sipping a fine wine.

Simple Entry Devices

Entry devices are said to run around $20 to $25, representing just a fraction of the much higher-priced e-rigs and high-end dab rings. The new, cheaper devices are shaped like vape battery-powered pens, although they come equipped with a small chamber where newbie consumers can load the concentrate, heat it up, and inhale it. Convenience and accessibility are the keys to these successful products.

Normalization and a New Attitude

MJBiz states that the new devices have become an important addition to the marijuana dispensary retail store not only for their ease of use and cheap price but also because they are aiding in altering consumers’ attitudes toward cannabis concentrates. The new devices are sleek, elegant, and simple. This is said to translate into normalcy than something exotic or even exceptional.

Whether a potential customer has been thinking seriously about indulging in cannabis products for recreational or medicinal purposes for the relief of aches and pains, utilizing the simple, cheaper consumption devices might be the right path to indulge in.
