City of North Myrtle Beach issues Heat Wave Advisory

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Wave Advisory for our region as the first significant heat wave of the season settles in across the Grand Strand. Beginning this week, daytime temperatures are expected to climb into the 90s, with high humidity and warm overnight conditions offering little relief. The most intense heat is anticipated Tuesday and Wednesday, but dangerously hot weather could persist through at least the end of June.

Understanding the Impact of the Heat Wave

Heat Wave Advisories are anticipated as heat indices approach or exceed 105 degrees, increasing the risk of heat-related illness for anyone spending extended time outdoors or without access to air conditioning.

While hot and humid summers are typical in North Myrtle Beach, this extended period of heat wave poses a serious risk—particularly to vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, young children, and those who work outdoors.

Community Safety Tips:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water—even if you do not feel thirsty.
  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours (usually 11 AM – 4 PM).
  • Never leave children or pets in vehicles.
  • Check on elderly neighbors and those without air conditioning.

For more information and tips on staying safe during the heat wave, visit the National Weather Service’s dedicated heat safety page.

Please take this advisory seriously. Heat is the deadliest weather-related hazard in the United States each year. Look out for one another and stay safe this summer.
