Krispy Kreme on 1st Avenue South, Downtown Myrtle Beach permanently closes

The Krispy Kreme Doughnuts shop on the south end of Myrtle Beach has closed permanently.

The doughnut establishment at that location dates back to over 40 plus years there.

The entrance door located at 100 S. Kings Highway has a sign stating that it is permanently closed. It asks customers to visit online, or buy at the 1806 North Kings Highway Myrtle Beach location.

Multiple businesses along Highway 17 in the southern part of Myrtle Beach have closed in the past 5 years, leading to a decline in that area.

A Krispy Kreme representative has confirmed the closure of the location, but they have declined to provide any specific reason for it.

On July 13, 1937, Vernon Rudolph acquired an undisclosed recipe for yeast-raised doughnuts from a French chef in New Orleans. He then rented a building in present-day historic Old Salem, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Rudolph promptly commenced the sale of Krispy Kreme doughnuts to nearby grocery stores.

The Myrtle Beach franchise was established during the 1960s and quickly became a tremendous success.

The closure of the Donut Man last year, coupled with Krispy Kreme shutting down, has resulted in the absence of any doughnut shops on this South end corridor.
