Latinos protest deportations in downtown Myrtle Beach

A small, but vocal group could be seen protesting, as Latinos protest deportations across America.

A wide array of posts on X show images as Latinos protest deportations in California.

The Myrtle Beach protests were held across from the Methodist Church on 9th Avenue at the Pavilion area Myrtle Beach parking lot.

We spoke with a several activists who stated on camera that a Facebook group organized the event asking that area Latinos protest deportations at the 9th Avenue location today.

LATINOS PROTEST DEPORTATIONS

Over 25% of all area school students speak English as a second language according to Lisa Bourcier, Public Information Officer of Horry County Schools.

The previous Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, C.E.O. Karon Riordan, teamed up with Lutheran Charities (a NGO) to bring in bus loads and plane loads of immigrants during the Biden administration.

Afterwards, Riordan chose to leave her position as C.E.O. of MBACC.

In 2024, there were 12,659 Non English Speaking Students Attending Horry County Schools, according to Bourcier.

When the news of the NGOs were first reported as,  The Lutheran Services Carolinas will be bringing the New American ProgramPresident and CEO for MBACC Karen Riordan said an upcoming meeting with the business community will focus on job opportunities and bringing the community together. She also promised to use her influence to assist the new immigrants in finding housing.

One of the things we do well is bring the business community together with this need. That’s why we said we would be happy to host having employers coming in and learn about the program,” said Riordan. “So that, when the families do arrive, they’re going to need food, they are going to need housing, they are going to clothing, they’re going to need jobs.

Riordan, months later, stepped down.

Much larger, but similar protests were reported along Highway 101 in Los Angeles today.
