Monday night, MyrtleBeachSC News was one of only two media outlets attending the HCGOP candidates forum held at Market Common. Both our team and the Sun News were present. No local T.V. media outlet was present, nor was MyHorryNews.

The Sun News sounded off today, asking if the Horry County Republican group of newcomers are still relevant in local politics.

Myrtle Beach’s Sun News states: What remains unclear is if the Horry County GOP, once a center of gravity in South Carolina politics, will retain its effectiveness as the county heads into a season of contested primary elections. In addition to the SC-7 congressional race, voters will also cast ballots for a school board chairman, a county chairman and several state lawmakers this June.

Key Themes Noted On Monday Night

Most of the candidates present agreed on the central issues. Election integrity was a common concern shared by all.

As the Sun News pointed out, it is true that neither Tom Rice, nor Russell Fry attended. These two candidates hold similar support from PACs associated with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

As non chamber, resident focused candidates share many of the same positions, the matter is now for voters to decide which candidate is best able to tactically run an effective campaign.

EFFECTIVE CAMPAIGN

An effective campaign, with a core team of leaders in each county comprising the 7 District, will be the most important ingredient.

Managing, leading, and organizing a campaign team will be the key difference maker if Republicans hope to pry this seat away from the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber.

Voters will have to coalesce behind the candidate that has this skill set.

This skill set will also work well in Washington. Team builders and team leaders, who can rally and unite like minded U.S. Congressmen, will set the bar for positive change over the coming decade.

EFFECTIVE HCGOP?

Whether the HCGOP remains effective or not will largely depend on their ability to encourage members to rally behind the candidate who demonstrates that he or she has the team building mindset to take on special interests.

Key consultants tell us the non chamber leader will need a team of 20 key team leaders. One or more who can organize their own team in each District 7 county will be needed. A volunteer team of approximately 100 to 300 door knocking volunteers will be needed as well.

Indications are clear that both Rice and Fry will equally have strong teams behind them.
