Political Consultant Walter Whetsell’s prime candidate, Mayor Brenda Bethune thought she had pulled one over on tonight’s Mayoral Debate Committee.

After learning the night the debate would be held, Whetsell scheduled a catered meet and greet among incumbents Councilwoman Jackie Hatley, Mayor Brenda Bethune, Councilman Mike Lowder and Councilman Gregg Smith. The idea was to upstage and short circuit the debate process, while allowing Bethune to avoid speaking about her record on the issues.
