Moving far far away and need some help planning the trip? You’ve set yourself a tall order, as moving a long distance takes hours and sometimes a couple of days. Moving house is always a long list of jobs you need to do, in a very short span of time. Nevertheless, it has to be completed so you can set foot into your new home and start to settle in. The trip can be hassle-free if you plan ahead and make sure you are doing some or all of the following things.

Get specific help

Moving far away has to be done by a moving company that knows how to do it right. Long-distance driving takes a lot of planning, as routes need to be set, alternatives mapped out, avoid areas where there is usually an accident, seek paths that will have convenient stopping points and also, routes that won’t pose a challenge for the vehicles. So if you are moving across the state or over state lines, use a long distance moving moving company. They have the team, logistics, equipment and planning strategies to get you and your things to your new home without a hiccup.

Heavy boxes

If you want your things to survive a little bit of a rough journey, you need to use heavy boxes that can protect your valuables. These types of boxes may be heavy-duty cardboard boxes, but should it be double-walled or triple-walled? If you have crystal or other delicate materials, then use the latter. But for everything else you only need double-walled cardboard. Not to mention, you can order packaging filler that can protect and stabilize your things from impacts and shifting around in the back of the truck.

Go on ahead

If you are moving as a couple, one of you should go on ahead and prepare the new home for the arrival of your things. This may sound simple, but you need to do a few things. Firstly, get there and clean. Take your vacuum with you, along with your household cleaning items. You want to clean the previous household’s smears and splashes in the kitchen, clean the bath and the toilet and make sure that any dust or dirt is removed from the crevices and surfaces of the fixtures and fittings. Take a few lightbulbs with you just in case they took those, so you can move in with plenty of light, should the things and your partner arrive late in the evening.

Plan your own stops

You don’t have to follow the trucks as they go on their journey. You or the person left behind in the old house awaiting the moving service, can take his or her own route. Stop at your own leisure so you can get some rest, freshen up and have a snack along the way. Don’t stick to following the trucks who will be doing their own thing as the drivers coordinate with each other.

Moving long distances is a huge task that has to be planned carefully. Going on ahead to ready the new home will make moving so much smoother.
