Willoughby Lane in Myrtle Beach is located just off 44th Avenue and Bob Grissom Parkway, just blocks from the First Presbyterian Church. The area is called Professional Parkway and features offices of accountants, stock brokers, lawyers, and business leaders.

Three fresh faced young adults are being charged with murder following a shooting on Thursday on Willoughby Lane. Those shootings left two people dead. Myrtle Beach police are calling it a drug deal gone bad.

Myrtle Beach Police identified the suspects on Sunday as Brady Gilcrease, 20, of Pickens; Brandon Hembree, 21, of Easley; and Daniel Hembree, 20, also of Easley.  The home on Willoughby where the incident took place is a suspected drug house.

Police reports indicate that gunshots were fired about 8:15 p.m. Thursday night.

A fight over the sale of drugs happened between the suspects and those now deceased.

The shootings resulted in the deaths of Ja’Leel Stephens, 19, and Kanon Cook Melvin, 21, both of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Such killings were once largely limited to the downtown areas of Myrtle Beach. A similar shooting happened at the Circle K on 34th Avenue just as few weeks’ past. Crime is increasingly becoming a city-wide issue.
