Myrtle Beach Police reports show Daniel Huff, 37, started a fire Saturday night June 12th in Myrtle Beach near the grounds of the Carolina Country Music Festival.
The Festival was in process at the time with over 35,000 attendants onsite.
Huff claimed he was “cleansing the world by burning the synagogue” after he started the fire.
The fire was set at Ripley’s Haunted House in the 900 block of North Ocean Boulevard.
Police responded when people started yelling fire and flagged down officers.
Huff was detained by police at 10th Avenue North shortly after the fire was started, officials said.
As a measure of precaution, a SLED bomb squad responded to the scene along with the Myrtle Beach Fire Dept.
No one attending the Carolina Country Music Festival was harmed as a result of Huff’s actions.
According to MBPD’s report, Huff was transported to the Myrtle Beach jail and charged with second-degree arson and fugitive from justice warrant.
