In a press release today, Coastal Carolina University announced the establishment of the MyrtleBeachSC News endowment scholarship for journalists.

Coastal Carolina University students majoring in communication will soon benefit from the recently established MyrtleBeachSC News Annual and Endowed Journalism Scholarship, it was announced by the Office for Advancement and Alumni Engagement. The scholarship supports students in the Department of Communication, Media, and Culture in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

We are grateful for MyrtleBeachSC News’ generosity in creating this endowed scholarship for journalism students,” said Eric Rivenbark, CCU’s senior director of major and planned gifts. “The organization has a deep understanding of the news industry and by creating this transformational scholarship, it is investing in the next generation of journalists.

The future of news

Coastal Carolina represents excellence in all they do,” said David Hucks, Publisher MyrtleBeachSC News. “I was inspired to create this scholarship because I believe Coastal Carolina University will excellently steward the upcoming bright minds in our field, setting the bar high for journalistic standards. Trust is the currency of journalism. Coastal Carolina has a proven track record of trustworthiness since its founding in 1954. Tomorrow’s leaders in journalism will need to overcome trust in broadcasting issues that my generation never imagined.

TRUST IN AN EVER CHANGING MARKETPLACE

The White House, political activists, former presidents and other government agencies are increasingly concerned with misinformation and disinformation in the news. All the while, recent disclosures by the “Twitter Files” show a colluded role between the FBI and former Twitter executives with Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, claiming the “Government paid Twitter millions of dollars to censor info from the public.”

WHO OWNS THE TRUTH?

The MyrtleBeachSC News endowment scholarship provides these opportunities.

President Thomas Jefferson said the truth is self evident. Is it?

Journalists are trained to trace every fact back to its original source.

Is there an original truth? Does the truth have a beginning?

If it does, the truth must be owned by that one single source.

Perhaps the truth is not ours to hold hostage, but rather ours to discover together.

A twelve ounce glass can only hold twelve ounces of fluid. When we throw that glass into the ocean, it becomes filled and surrounded by the entire body of water.

CENSORING THE HUMAN SPIRIT

If the truth is self evident, a contact point is required. This holy and universal point of origin will naturally attach itself to a willing receptacle.

Said David Hucks, “I believe our spirit is wiser than we are. I believe every human spirit is searching for a place it can safely call home. I am the only agent that can keep my spirit from finding home. When I censor my own human spirit, I choose to believe a lie, and live in the conflict those lies create.”

“Yet the truth is always calling me unto itself. In truth I find meaning, purpose, acceptance, love, freedom and home,” added Hucks.

A FUTURE OF POTENTIAL

With the MyrtleBeachSC News endowment scholarship, the gauntlet has now been laid by government and monied interests for the future of how we handle such matters.

Today’s journalists must possess an internal compass unlike any other in history to navigate this maze.
