What started in Horry County with a bang, has turned into a total meltdown for the Nancy Mace campaign.
J. Austin McCubbin, a Nancy Mace campaign official for the candidate, resigned on Monday, claiming that she has distanced herself from the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement and advising President Donald Trump against supporting her campaign for governor of South Carolina.
In an extended statement, the outgoing campaign consultant noted that Mace has positioned herself with the faction of the Republican Party associated with Rand Paul and Thomas Massie, and is accepting backing from the Protect Freedom PAC, which is connected to Paul.
NANCY MACE CAMPAIGN MELTDOWN EXPLAINED
Yesterday’s news however was simply the last straw.
In October 2025, Rep. Nancy Mace faced allegations of a profanity-filled outburst aimed at police and TSA personnel at Charleston International Airport. This confrontation arose following a misunderstanding about her security escort.
Her former Political Consultant Wesley Donehue posted the below on X at the time.
Although Donehue played a role in assisting Nancy Mace’s campaign to secure her position as a congresswoman against an opponent endorsed by Trump, he is not an admirer of hers.
Nancy Mace has sent this to every elected official who signed a letter in support of the Charleston International Airport. How much longer are we gonna put up with this pettiness? pic.twitter.com/9UpUwXDN8M

At one time, the Nancy Mace campaign had a lock on 25% of the voters in Horry County.
Did she self sabotage? Did she create excessive and unnecessary drama?
Regardless, her chances of winning Horry County have now diminished.
