Neil James sat down with the MyrtleBeachSC News team to discuss the future of Horry County Schools. James serves on the Horry County School Board. James represents District 10.

James is from the Loris area. He was raised in Loris and graduated from Loris High School.

James says he has a passion for doing what is right for the students of Horry County. The job requires common sense, says James.

Horry County Schools is the largest employer in Horry County. The system operates the largest budget in Horry County. James believes a strong business acumen is required to navigate an over $891 million budget.

RAPID GROWTH DEMANDS WISE PLANNING

Neil James was appointed to the Horry County Board of Education in November 2009 and elected to office in 2010, 2014, and 2018. He served as Interim Chair from May 2018 through January 2019. Mr. James is a professional engineer and holds two Bachelor of Science degrees in Agricultural Engineering and Electrical Engineering from Clemson University and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Webster University. He is employed by Santee Cooper. He and his wife, Felicia, have two daughters.

James says he has the leadership skills and experience to continue serving his district well.
