North Myrtle Beach residents believe the tourist tax hurts tourism and encourages corruption. They told MyrtleBeachSC.com that they also believe the advertising model the tax supports is completely out of date. Today, North Myrtle Beach residents said no to the TDF (tourist tax) in the strongest way possible.
Residents of Myrtle Beach will now watch Myrtle Beach City Council closely over the next short period.
Outspoken residents in Myrtle Beach feel much the same way about the tax. They have never been given the chance, however, to vote it up or down. The tax was initially passed in 2009 by a five of seven majority city council vote, bypassing the voters entirely.
The Myrtle Beach Tourist Tax (TDF) expires next year. Many voters want the Myrtle Beach TDF put before a voter referendum as well.
