A packed house of local residents in Market Common clearly connected with the candidates present debating the key unaddressed challenges facing the City of Myrtle Beach.

Paul Gable excellently moderated the debate.

The five mayoral candidates who have filed for the upcoming election are:

  • Brenda Bethune (incumbent) DID NOT ATTEND
  • Tammie Durant
  • Gene Ho
  • William D. McClure
  • C.D. Rozsa

The central and common themes that all candidates agreed on were the high crime rates inside the city, as well as, an out of control $200 million budget that handcuffs the city into operating at its debt ceiling.

Each candidate was given ample time to address concerns presented by local residents.

MyrtleBeachSC News was present for the entire debate and will publish video early a.m. on each candidate’s individual positions. Look for our follow up articles early a.m. tomorrow with video from tonight’s event.

The candidates were straight forward and articulate as they discussed a myriad of problems caused by, what they called, poor current and past leadership.

All major media outlets were present for the debate.

Mayor Bethune skipped the debate, opting instead to throw her own catered affair at Market Common. Her event, however, fell flat on local voters.
