It’s not normal to have pain in the palm of your hand, so when you do, you will definitely notice it. Our hands are very flexible and they are also strong. There are a lot of strong tendons and ligaments in the hand which allow it to absorb a lot of punishment and still remain flexible and working. So when you have pain that emanates from the palms, you might feel like this could be serious. But hold on, don’t worry just yet. Here are some symptoms, causes and ways to treat hand pain.

Where is the pain?

It’s not usually the case that your muscles or tissue will be the culprit that causes pain. It’s most likely going to be a bone structure issue. Speak with a Chiropractor that can help to not only find the cause, but fix it, should it be a bone misalignment issue. Oftentimes, we think trapped nerve pains are muscle tissue pain, such as tears or punctures. However, a trapped nerve is usually the cause of a bone that is not in the right place.

Ice it

The best thing to do in the meantime is to ice the area. This will prevent swelling, and that can mean you get back a feeling and motion in your hands. Ice is a way to lessen the pain but it should not be abused. Only ice for about 15 or 20 minutes. Icing longer than this won’t help as the blood from the area is at the least it can be without it becoming too dangerous. The blood will rush back and you’ll begin to regain feeling. The thought is, that new blood will reclaim the area, bringing white blood cells to the affected area.

Plantar fascia stretch

One way to soothe your hand pain is to stretch the fascia. This is a thin white layer of hard tissue that is often called scar tissue. It holds the skin and the muscles in place, so they move together. You can place your fascia under pressure by using a golf ball. Place the ball on the ground, and open up your palm. Push down on the ball with the palm open. Then you should roll your palm over the ball, stopping on areas that are tight and sore. Wait for about 10-30 seconds until you feel the area loosen up. Then continue rolling. Do this for about 5-10 minutes and your fascia will be flexible and prevented from pulling on your muscles.

Index finger

If you have pain across your palm, thumb and index finger, then here is what you can do. Try not to make a fist or grab things using your index finger for a while. Using tape across the joints can help to keep your fingers straight and or supported. Ice the area and try to do self-massage which can soothe muscles and tendons.

Pain in your palm is uncommon so you should pay attention to it. Here are some things you can do to fix the pain, let us know how you found them.
