At a Friends for For Chapin Library Event in Myrtle Beach, former S.C. Supreme Court Justice Kaye Hearn told the audience, “I don’t know what a woman is.”
Her comments can be heard in the broadcast shared in this article.
Insights from Kaye Hearn on what a woman is?
This only highlights why Representatives like S.C. Rep. Joe White say S.C. needs Judicial Reform.
She shares her office with Senator Luke Rankin from Horry County, who is a prominent member of the Judicial Merit Selection Committee.
Kaye Hearn, a former Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court, is now dedicated to litigation and appellate advocacy at Wyche.
Kaye Hearn, a former Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court, is now dedicated to litigation and appellate advocacy at Wyche. She shares her office with Senator Luke Rankin from Horry County, who is a prominent member of the Judicial Merit Selection Committee. This committee is responsible for evaluating and selecting judges, including Kaye Hearn.
From 1986 until her election to the Court of Appeals in 1995, she acted as a Family Court Judge.
While serving as Chief Judge, she was also the President of the Council of Chief Judges, a national organization for chief judges of intermediate appellate courts.
Before her election to the state’s highest court, Justice Kaye Hearn spent fifteen years on the South Carolina Court of Appeals, including a decade as its Chief Judge.
Elected to the Supreme Court in May 2009, she became only the second woman to serve in that role in the court’s history.
In April 2023, Kaye Hearn stepped down from her position as a Justice on the South Carolina Supreme Court.
At the time, she held the distinction of being the longest-serving member of the South Carolina State Court Judiciary.
In the past, the S.C. Family Caucus, led by Rep. John McCravy, has asserted that they thoroughly evaluate South Carolina judges.
However, it is evident that McCravy’s vetting process falls significantly short, as evidenced by Kaye Hearn’s opposition to the Heartbeat Bill and her apparent lack of understanding regarding the definition of a woman.
