Sleep is incredibly important. It’s when we rest, our bodies recuperate from the day, and regenerate for the next day. Getting good sleep is essential for our health, and EMF exposure can harm and disrupt your sleep. Cutting EMF exposure in the bedroom is important.

Exposure to EMF radiation is linked to some negative health effects. EMF radiation has been linked with cancer and stress and can affect your autoimmune system, reproductive system, and even your melatonin production, among other health issues.

Among the negative health effects of electromagnetic fields is sleep disruption. Exposure to EM radiation will interfere with your body’s melatonin production and circadian rhythm. The link between EMF exposure and sleep is very well researched, with many experts expressing their concerns.

Unfortunately, no matter how green your home, EMF is an inescapable fact of modern life. Electromagnetic radiation comes from power lines, electrical wiring in the walls, appliances, and any device that communicates wirelessly, such as your cell phone and the WiFi. The power lines and electrical wiring are not only a source of EMF, but also of dirty electricity, which is thought to come with other health risks.

If you want to know how much EMF is in your room, it’s a good idea to buy an EMF reader and learn how to use it to test the radiation levels in your environment. There are steps that you can take to reduce your exposure while your sleep. The best EMF protection is free, so let’s see what you can do to create a healthier, safer, and better night’s sleep.

Keep Electronics Out Of The Bedroom

All electronics emit electromagnetic radiation that is harmful to your body. It’s one thing to expose yourself to EMF radiation from wireless devices when you’re getting some benefit from those gadgets, but when you’re asleep, you aren’t enjoying your wireless tech.

If you have these wireless devices in your bedroom at night, you are exposing your body to radiation that is not necessary and will bring you absolutely no benefit.

For these reasons, it’s advisable not to sleep with your cellphone. You could even consider switching it to airplane mode at night.

By keeping your electronics out of the bedroom, you will be able to make a significant reduction in your overall radiation exposure, which itself reduces your radiation health risks, improve your immune system health, and you will also be taking a big step toward improving the quality of your sleep.

Instead of being your electronics into the bedroom, instead, try:

  • Reading a book before you sleep
  • Take a moment for mediation, reflection, or prayer every night
  • Create a night-time routine with electronics
  • Spend time talking to your partner or your family about how their day was
  • Do relaxing yoga or breathing exercises

Turn Off Your WiFi At Night

Most people leave their WiFi routers on twenty-four hours a day, which can lead to a significant level of cumulative non-stop exposure to EMF.

WiFi is an incredibly convenient way to access the internet, but this is no reason to keep your WiFi router on when it isn’t in use, especially when you and your family are asleep.

In the same way that you want to keep electronics out of the bedroom because you’re not enjoying or getting any benefit from them when you’re asleep, you should also turn off the WiFi router at night to make a big reduction in your nighttime EMF exposure and improve your sleep.

Don’t Use Electric Blankets

An electric blanket to keep you cozy at night sounds like a nice warm idea until you realize that they emit very high levels of radiation and your body is getting all that exposure, right against your body, while you sleep, all night long.

If you use a heating or electric blanket at night at the moment, you should stop. This kind of electric blanket literally blankets you in high-powered low-frequency radiation, which will penetrate your body. If you leave your heated blanket on all night, this would be considered chronic exposure.

There have also been studies that have shown these types of heating blankets are linked to childhood diseases like leukemia and can lead to an increased risk of miscarriage in pregnant women, and infertility in men, The best way to protect yourself is to ditch the heating blanket altogether.

Instead of using an electric blanket, you could:

  • Use a heavier comforter or a duvet with feather down
  • Use flannel sheets or sweatshirt sheets
  • Turn up your heat at night
  • Wear socks or a night hat to bed
  • Use a hot water bottle under your blanket or sheets

It’s better to keep you and your family safe by getting rid of electric blankets altogether, but if you really love your electric blanket too much to say goodbye to it forever, you can try using it to heat up your bed before you get in, and then turning it off. This way, you can get into a warm bed, but at least aren’t constantly exposed while you are asleep.

Don’t Sleep On A Metal Coil Mattress

EMF exposure can come from a lot of sources throughout your home, such as your cellphone and tablet. However, did you know that your box spring or mattress could be exposing you to additional radiation? It’s like lying on a radiation antenna.

Most metal coil mattresses and box springs have coils of metal inside of them. This metal can then act as an antenna and amplify EMF radiation from your WiFi and Bluetooth devices around your home, especially from sources that are in your bedroom.

The electromagnetic waves from these devices get trapped in the metal coils, which can amplify and conduct them up towards your body. In fact, any metal that is similar in length and size can amplify these wavelengths of EMF radiation exposing you to greater amounts of unhealthy EMF.

You don’t want to be sleeping on a bed night after night with EMF radiation just being transmitted throughout the body, but this is exactly what happens when you lay on a bed made with metal coils in a world that is filled with EMF radiation.

Choose a mattress and box spring that does not have metal coils. There are plenty of mattresses available, such as memory foam mattresses, that do not incorporate metal coils. If you choose to buy a platform-style bed, you won’t need a box spring at all. Platform beds support the bed and only require a mattress.

Keep Your Furniture Away From Appliances

Never put a bed, chair, or a couch on the other side of the wall to where there are large appliances of the breaker panel is present.

If you’re checking your home with an EMF meter, you will likely find that there will be an unusually high magnetic field reading around furniture this is on the side of the wall to large appliances like your refrigerator.

The solution to this is simple. Just move the bed or couch to the other side of the room, away from the appliance. Once you’ve done this, the magnetic field around your furniture should be reduced dramatically, so you can use it without too much of a worry.

You can do this kind of assessment in your own home, even if you don’t have an EMF meter. Check your house to see if there are electrical appliances near the furniture. Try to move the furniture as far as possible from these electrical appliances.
