Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach announced the birth of their very first penguin chick on social media this week.

Born October 7, Ripley’s Aquarium says the newest addition turned six weeks old on Wednesday. According to the social media post, the baby is being hand-raised by husbandry staff behind the scenes in the Penguin Nursery.

Staff say the chick will soon be able to waddle along with other penguins featured in the Penguin Playhouse.

Ripleys is located at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The 5,500-square-foot exhibit is the largest in Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach’s 20-year history. This venue includes a brand-new Ocean Wonders gallery with eight new tanks, housing awesome new species of fish from all over the world. Two new state-of-the-art classrooms for programs and school groups allow guests to get up close and personal with these extraordinary birds. These unique experiences lead up to our world-class penguin habitat, with floor-to-ceiling viewing glass more than 50 feet long and a 360-degree crawl tunnel for guests to waddle through and immerse themselves.
