S.C. Legislators are sponsoring House Bill 4047. Key Sponsors include Reps. Cezar McKnight, McCravy, Erickson, Pope, Oremus, Jones, Long, Chumley, Haddon, Magnuson, G.R. Smith, Trantham, Burns, May, McCabe, Taylor, Dabney, Bannister, Forrest, Hiott, Hixon, Jordan, Lowe, McGarry, Hyde, Fry (of Surfside Beach), Crawford (of Socastee), Huggins and Atkinson.

As Newsweek reports: SC Democrat Cezar McKnight Introduces Bill to Ban Gender Transition Surgery for Minors.

The bill got wide attention in Horry County and, especially in the City of Myrtle Beach yesterday, as key spokespersons publicly supported the measure. The bill has the universal backing of the S.C. General Assembly and is expected to pass.

The press release began with a hint of drama as Mayor Bethune had MBPD call event organizer, Karon Mitchell, informing her the legislators and she would all be arrested if they chose to speak on this issue. No police presence could be found as the event went underway, however.

A group of local and national speakers met at the Ted C. Collins building in Myrtle Beach yesterday after Mayor Brenda Bethune told Myrtle Beach voters she believed underage children should be allowed to pick the gender of their choice.

MAYOR BETHUNE SAYS “It’s about if a child decides if they want to be a male or a female.”
