This Tuesday, voters in District 9 will head to the polls. The choices are retired patrol officer Terry Fowler or real estate broker, Mark Causey.

Recent articles and posts around this race need clarifications.

FALSE

Assertion: Mark Causey previously served on Horry County Council.

Causey has never been elected to nor served on Horry County Council.

King One/Mark Causey literature states Causey served on County Council – not true

FALSE

Former Horry County Council Chairman Mark Lazarus supports Terry Fowler.

Lazarus actually supports Mark Causey.

Recent social post shared by Mark Lazarus

TRUE

Fowler openly supported former council chairman Mark Lazarus against current council chairman Johnny Gardner in the 2018 council chairman race

Fowler wrote a letter in support of Mark Lazarus. He was employed by Lazarus as an Horry County Patrol Officer at the time. Lazarus asked Fowler to provide the letter.

TRUE

Mark Causey has an outstanding  $433,696.59 judgment against him.

Horry County court records show this outstanding judgement.

The Fraternal Order of Police Chairman lives in District 9. He did not want to insert himself into a local race in his own district.

TRUE

The Fowler campaign tried to paint Causey as sympathetic to developers from the beginning of the campaign.

Mark Causey has clear ties to developers Mike King, Dickie Lester, himself, and others. Causey’s newest development, The Cottages on the Marsh, is being built on questionably, marginal marshlands.

FALSE

Fowler’s wife has ties to the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s key players.

These statements are out of bounds. They amount to typical political smear. Such has no place in politics. Bridgett Fowler worked for attorney Shep Guyton. She had nothing to do with Guyton’s management of the company. She never associated with nor participated in Guyton’s personal dealings in the community. She had no relationships with Guyton’s business connections. She was no more than a company employee.

False – 5 star Pinocchio award

Terry Fowler is in the development business.

This is a claim made by local blogger, Paul Gable. Gable states that because Fowler drives an 18 wheel truck, he is in the real estate business.

Facts are Fowler delivers trusses to individual, single home builders in North Carolina.

Making such a statement is like saying UPS is in the Eye Care industry because they deliver the contact lenses that you ordered online to your home. OR that UPS and Walmart are one and the same, because you ordered your clothes online from Walmart and they were delivered by UPS.

We ask everyone to please vote this Tuesday, June 23rd.
